Since 2018, Oxfam-Wereldwinkel Veurne and the coffee cooperative ACPCU from Uganda have been jointly supporting this school. This way, girls in this region also get a chance of a decent education. A success, as pupil numbers increase year after year. As is the success rate of girls in the seventh grade.

The works for the construction of the boarding school were finally able to start today. Due to a lot of rain caused by climate change, both the proper location on the site and the construction plans have had to be adjusted. But now we are finally off.
93 children participated in the national Primary Leave Examination at the end of 2023. The results were excellent. 32 graduated with grade 1 (>90%), 54 with grade 2 (>75%), and 9 children with grade 3 or 4 (passed).
By the end of 2023, 808 pupils are registred, of which 422 girls.
John Nuwagaba, the general manager of the coffee cooperative ACPCU, our partner in this project, took the opportunity to visit us in Veurne inbetween a congress in the Netherlands and a coffee fair in Athens. We were able to discuss together how the construction of the boarding school will proceed and he expressed his gratitude to the volunteers from the Wereldwinkel for their years of commitment to the Nyakashambya Primary School. John was also received by the Mayor and aldermen of the city of Veurne who once again expressed their commitment to this beautiful project.
After a pleasant holiday, the new school year started on 6th February. Many pupils are eagerly awaiting all the opportunities they can get. And once again, girls make up more than half of all pupils.
